Where it came from
The LEGO DUPLO Basic Bricks set 10623 was introduced as part of the broader DUPLO initiative, designed specifically for children aged 18 months to 5 years. By utilizing larger bricks that are compatible with standard LEGO elements, the line seeks to provide a safe, accessible entry point for toddlers to develop fine motor skills and spatial reasoning through tactile play.
The design philosophy behind DUPLO bricks centers on durability and simplified geometry to allow for intuitive construction. While LEGO design teams rarely attribute specific sets to individual designers, the 10623 collection was conceived to supplement existing DUPLO sets, offering a versatile assortment of colors to encourage open-ended creativity rather than rigid, model-based building.
