Where it came from
The Duplo Basic Bricks set, identified as 5622-1, represents the foundational philosophy of the Lego Group's larger-format building system. Launched to serve toddlers and preschoolers, the Duplo line was specifically engineered to be twice the size of standard Lego bricks in all dimensions, ensuring compatibility with the parent system while remaining safe and easy for smaller hands to manipulate and assemble without frustration.
The design of these basic bricks prioritizes tactile engagement and spatial reasoning for early developmental stages. By stripping away complex specialized pieces, this set emphasizes open-ended construction, allowing children to experiment with stability and form. Its reception has remained consistently positive over the decades, as the bricks are recognized for their durability and the way they bridge the gap between simple block play and the more intricate technical systems of traditional Lego sets.
