Duplo Family, Hispanic

The Duplo Family set 5091-1, released in 1999, was part of a focused effort by the LEGO Group to introduce more diverse human figures into their preschool-oriented product line. This set featured a nuclear family of three Hispanic figures, designed to promote inclusive play and allow children to better represent their own family structures. The figures utilized the classic, chunky aesthetic characteristic of Duplo, prioritizing ease of handling for toddlers and durability for early childhood education environments.

The design of these figures followed the standard Duplo form factor, which has remained largely consistent since its introduction in 1969 to encourage developmental motor skills. By releasing specific sets centered on ethnic representation, the company sought to broaden the appeal of the theme beyond generic archetypes. While sets like 5091-1 were generally well-received by educational institutions and parents seeking diverse toy options, they were retired as the company transitioned toward more stylized, varied figure designs in subsequent decades.
