Where it came from
Released in the early 1980s, the Duplo Window and Shower Curtains set, numbered 5094-1, represents a departure from the traditional plastic building blocks associated with the brand. Created during a period when the Lego Group was exploring ways to expand the functionality of the Duplo system for younger children, these textile accessories were designed to facilitate roleplay by transforming standard block-built structures into miniature living spaces.
The design of these fabric pieces aimed to introduce tactile diversity to the building experience, allowing children to add curtains to toy houses or rooms. While functional for their intended purpose, these textile add-ons were produced for a relatively short window of time, eventually being phased out as the company shifted focus back toward their core molded plastic components. They remain a distinct, albeit niche, curiosity for collectors of vintage Duplo accessories.
