Where it came from
Released in the late 1990s, the Duplo Tubular Chest 5513 was designed as a functional storage solution for the Duplo line. During this period, the LEGO Group expanded its storage offerings to help younger users and parents organize the increasingly large volume of pieces associated with the Duplo building system. The product features a cylindrical plastic tub with a lid designed to double as a building plate, emphasizing the brand's goal of merging utility with playability.
The design of the chest reflects the aesthetic of late-20th-century Duplo products, which utilized bright, primary colors and durable plastic to appeal to toddlers and preschoolers. By providing a clear, stackable container, LEGO aimed to address the practical challenge of brick storage while maintaining consistent branding across their early childhood product range. It was generally received as a helpful accessory for the brand's core demographic, focusing on simplicity, safety, and physical robustness.
