Where it came from
The LEGO Early Simple Machines set, designated 9654, was introduced as part of the LEGO Education line to serve as a foundational tool for primary school science and technology curricula. Designed to introduce young students to the principles of mechanics, the set features a specific collection of gears, levers, pulleys, and wheels that allow for the hands-on construction of basic machines, effectively bridging the gap between abstract physics concepts and tangible, functional models.
The design of the 9654 set emphasizes durability and ease of use, prioritizing large, intuitive components that are appropriate for the motor skills of younger children. While LEGO Education sets are primarily aimed at classroom environments, the design reflects the company's long-standing philosophy of learning through play. The set was generally well-received by educators for its versatility, offering a structured yet creative approach to teaching mechanical advantage and energy transfer.
