Electric Wire

The 1152-1 Electric Wire set was released by LEGO in 1977 as a utilitarian component designed to expand the play potential of the early LEGO Technic and Expert Builder ranges. At a time when the company was increasingly focused on mechanical realism and motorized functionality, this set provided a simple, standardized way to integrate electrical currents into custom builds. It served as a bridge between static display models and functional machines, reflecting the brand’s shift toward interactive, engineering-oriented play during the late seventies.

This set was designed as a supplement to the broader System and early Technic collections, consisting of basic wiring, battery boxes, and connection points meant to power light bulbs or small motors. It was not intended to be a standalone model, but rather a functional toolkit for the budding enthusiast. Its design was strictly utilitarian, prioritizing compatibility and safety for young users over aesthetic flair. It remains a hallmark of the transition period in LEGO’s history, marking an era where the company began to embrace more complex mechanical and electrical integration.
