Where it came from
Released in 1961 as part of the Lego System of Play, the 248-2 Factory with Conveyor Belt represents an early era of the brand's modular building sets. At a time when Lego was transitioning from simple wooden blocks to the plastic interlocking brick, this set was designed to foster imaginative industrial play, reflecting the mid-century fascination with automation and manufacturing processes.
The design utilizes standard brick components to create a functional mechanical element, specifically a hand-cranked conveyor belt that allowed children to simulate factory operations. While it lacks the intricate detail of modern sets, it was well-received for its playability and served as an early example of incorporating moving parts into stationary building models.
