Where it came from
Released in 2023 as part of the LEGO Indiana Jones theme, the Fighter Plane Chase (set 77012) was designed to commemorate the iconic sequence from the 1989 film Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. The set recreates the desert dogfight between a vintage Pilatus P-2 plane and Indiana Jones's getaway car, capturing the high-stakes atmosphere of the cinematic chase scene.
The design process focused on translating the specific silhouettes of the film's vehicles into the modular aesthetic of modern building sets. By including minifigures of Indiana Jones, Professor Henry Jones Sr., and a fighter pilot, the designers aimed to provide fans with an immersive play experience that emphasizes the collaborative nature of the film's escape sequence. The set received positive attention for its faithful recreation of the P-2's propeller mechanics and the distinct build of the 1930s-style convertible.
