Fire Control Centre

The Fire Control Centre, released as set 6389 in 1990, emerged during a period when the Lego Group was heavily expanding its Town theme to include more complex emergency response scenarios. Designed to serve as the central hub for a fire department, the set was intended to offer a modular play experience that complemented the smaller fire truck and station releases of the same era. It reflected a design shift toward more intricate building structures that allowed children to engage in coordinated role-play, focusing on the dispatch and logistics side of emergency services rather than just the vehicles themselves.

The aesthetic of the set is emblematic of late 1980s and early 1990s Lego architecture, characterized by a classic primary color palette and the use of printed elements to simulate communications equipment. It was well-regarded by collectors of the Town era for its inclusion of the fire chief minifigure and the specific radio console piece, which provided a focal point for the construction. The design team aimed to capture the functional, utilitarian feel of a municipal fire headquarters, a goal that resonated with fans who sought to build expansive, realistic city layouts.
