Where it came from
The LEGO Star Wars Freeco Speeder, released as set 8085 in 2010, was produced during the height of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series. It was designed to recreate the distinct cold-weather vehicle piloted by Obi-Wan Kenobi during the episode 'Trespass' on the ice planet Orto Plutonia. The set captured the vehicle's unique elongated, open-cockpit aesthetic, reflecting the specialized industrial design language established for the Republic's specialized operations in harsh climates.
The set is particularly notable among collectors for including the first LEGO minifigure of Obi-Wan Kenobi in his 'cold weather gear' and the exclusive Talz chieftain Thi-Sen. Designed by the LEGO Star Wars team to integrate play features like flick-fire missiles and a detachable storage compartment, the model was well-received by fans of the animated series for its accuracy in representing the utilitarian, rugged look of the Speeder as seen on screen.
