Where it came from
The Frontier Patrol, set number 6706, was released in 1997 as a sub-theme of the broader LEGO System product line. It was designed to fit within a western-themed narrative, offering a small, accessible build that complemented larger sets like the Sheriff's Lock-up. At the time, the LEGO Group was diversifying its offerings to include more specialized character-driven scenarios that allowed for smaller, focused play experiences.
The design of the set focuses on the simplicity of the era, utilizing a straightforward build to showcase the iconic western-themed minifigures and their accessories. Like many sets of its size during the late 1990s, the Frontier Patrol was intended to provide an affordable entry point for children to expand their existing western displays. It remains a nostalgic touchstone for collectors of the 1990s western series, remembered primarily for its distinct minifigure printing and specialized western horse piece.
