Where it came from
The LEGO System set 6128, titled Function, was released in 2008 as a specialized educational or supplementary kit. Unlike traditional playsets designed around specific themes like Space or City, this set was engineered as a technical resource for demonstrating mechanical movement, focusing on gears, axles, and levers to teach basic physics and engineering principles to young builders.
The design of this kit reflects the modular, utilitarian aesthetic common to LEGO’s educational lines. It was developed to integrate with standard bricks, providing functional components that allowed builders to animate their creations. Upon its release, it was primarily distributed through institutional channels and educational retailers rather than mass-market toy stores, making it a functional tool for classrooms and extracurricular robotics programs.
