Where it came from
The Gangster minifigure, identified as set number 8805-15, was released in 2011 as part of the fifth series of the LEGO Collectible Minifigures line. This series was designed to provide a diverse range of characters that fell outside the scope of traditional licensed play themes, drawing inspiration from various cultural archetypes and historical tropes. The figure reflects the classic aesthetic of 1920s cinema, characterized by its pinstripe suit, fedora, and accompanying tommy gun accessory.
The design was intended to capture a quintessential noir villain, utilizing a dual-sided head print that features both a stern expression and a smug grin. As with the wider Collectible Minifigures series, the piece was conceptualized by the LEGO design team to offer collectors accessible, high-quality character representations that emphasized personality and narrative potential. Upon release, it was well-received by the adult collecting community for its intricate printing and the creative utility of its era-specific accessories.
