Garage

The 361-2 Garage was released in 1975 as part of the Legoland Town series, a period when the brand was transitioning from its earlier, simpler building systems toward the more standardized modular aesthetic that would define the decade. It served as a functional service station building, reflecting the company’s focus on integrated play environments where vehicles could interact with structures. The design prioritized accessibility and playability, featuring large, open-ended garage doors and a dedicated space for small-scale vehicle maintenance, which was a hallmark of the town-themed sets from this era.

The set was designed to complement the burgeoning fleet of 1:87 scale vehicles that were central to the brand’s offerings during the mid-seventies. By focusing on utility and architectural simplicity, the designers aimed to provide a versatile backdrop for children to engage in role-play scenarios involving automotive repair and city management. While it lacks the intricate detail of modern sets, its reception was positive among contemporary audiences, as it successfully bridged the gap between basic brick building and the more complex, world-building kits that would emerge in later years.
