Where it came from
The Garmatron, set 70504, was released in early 2013 as part of the LEGO Ninjago theme's 'Legacy of the Green Ninja' arc. It represents the primary vehicle of the Stone Army, a faction serving the Overlord, and was designed to reflect an aesthetic of dark, ancient stone combined with futuristic, destructive weaponry. The set serves as a mobile command base, featuring a distinctive cage mechanism intended to trap minifigures, reflecting the darker tone introduced during the second season of the Ninjago television series.
The design team focused on a heavy, industrial appearance to contrast with the more agile vehicles used by the series' protagonists. Its development was influenced by the need for a play-feature-heavy model that could accommodate the unique Stone Warrior figures. Upon its release, the set was noted for its departure from the brighter color palettes of earlier Ninjago waves, signaling a shift in the narrative toward a more ominous conflict that resonated with the fanbase at the time.
