Where it came from
Released in 2006 as part of the Lego Exo-Force theme, Gate Assault 7705 was designed to serve as a compact entry point into the series’ high-stakes narrative of humanity defending Sentai Fortress from robot invaders. The set captures the aesthetic of the line, which famously blended Western construction techniques with the visual language of Japanese mecha anime, characterized by vibrant color schemes, specialized pilot minifigures, and bold, angular robotic designs.
The Exo-Force line was developed by Lego as an experimental foray into a more story-driven, action-oriented product range, featuring character-focused marketing materials and web-based media. Gate Assault was conceived as a skirmish-scale set, focusing on the tactical interaction between a human-controlled mech and a robotic automated defense turret. While the line eventually concluded in 2008, it remains a notable example of Lego's effort to integrate anime-inspired storytelling into their broader product portfolio during the mid-2000s.
