Where it came from
Released in 2019 as part of the Lego Technic theme, the Getaway Truck (set 42090) was designed as a robust, pull-back motorized vehicle. It was launched alongside the Police Pursuit set, intended to be combined to create a 4x4 'combimodel' that offered expanded play value for younger builders transitioning into the more complex Technic building system.
The design emphasizes a rugged, high-speed aesthetic typical of off-road chase vehicles, featuring large, deep-tread tires and a heavy-duty front bull bar. As a smaller-scale Technic entry, it focused on accessibility and durability, prioritizing the tactile satisfaction of the pull-back motor mechanism. It was received as a straightforward, engaging set that effectively demonstrated the core engineering principles of gear-based movement common to the Technic line.
