Where it came from
The LEGO Giant Truck, set 5571, was released in 1996 as a centerpiece of the Model Team theme. This line was specifically engineered to appeal to older builders and adult fans, focusing on realistic aesthetics, complex mechanical features, and higher part counts than standard system sets of the era. The set captures the quintessential look of a classic American long-haul truck, featuring a high level of detail including a detailed interior, opening doors, and a functional steering mechanism.
Designed by master builder Steen Sig Andersen, the model is celebrated for its clever use of specialized parts and its substantial physical presence. It was conceived as a premium display piece, pushing the boundaries of what could be achieved with contemporary LEGO bricks in the mid-nineties. Upon its release, it was well-received by the building community for its technical sophistication and remains a highly sought-after vintage set due to its iconic status within the Model Team series.
