Where it came from
The LEGO Creator Expert Gingerbread House, released in 2019, serves as an expansion to the long-running Winter Village Collection. Designed by LEGO lead designer Tiago Catarino, the set was conceived to capture the aesthetic of classic holiday confectionery, featuring ornate icing-like details, candy-styled buttons, and gumdrop-inspired accents. It was intended to evoke a sense of festive nostalgia while pushing the technical boundaries of decorative building techniques.
The set received praise for its intricate color palette and the creative use of non-traditional pieces, such as translucent purple 1x1 bricks for light-up candy elements. Critically, it is noted for its high display value and the inclusion of a light brick to illuminate the hearth, effectively bridging the gap between a standard construction set and seasonal home decor. It remains a staple of the holiday series for its blend of playful whimsy and architectural sophistication.
