Where it came from
The 4002023 Gingerbread House, released in 2023, is a special seasonal set commissioned by the LEGO Group exclusively for their employees. These annual holiday gifts are a tradition that honors the dedication of staff and designers, often featuring intricate builds that reflect the festive spirit. The design emphasizes a classic, whimsical aesthetic, utilizing traditional Christmas color palettes and confectionery-inspired detailing to evoke a sense of warmth and nostalgia consistent with holiday-themed brick models.
The set was developed by the internal design team, who focused on modularity and decorative charm. By incorporating elements that mirror real-world gingerbread architecture—such as frosting-like white trims and candy-shaped accents—the designers sought to create a display piece that bridges the gap between functional building toys and seasonal home decor. Upon its release to staff members worldwide, the set was noted for its balance of structural complexity and festive appeal, becoming a sought-after collectible within the secondary market due to its limited distribution.
