Where it came from
The Gollum Fun Pack, released in 2016 as part of the Lego Dimensions toy-to-life series, served as a bridge between physical construction sets and interactive digital gaming. Designed by the team at Traveller's Tales, the pack allowed players to import the iconic character into the game's expansive multiverse, utilizing the specialized base plate to trigger content within the software. The set captures the character's nuanced appearance from the Lord of the Rings films, balancing the limited piece count of the Fun Pack format with the necessity of recognizable aesthetics.
The design of the Gollum minifigure reflects the aesthetic standards established by Lego's broader license with Middle-earth properties. By focusing on his hunched posture and signature wide-eyed expression, the designers aimed to satisfy both dedicated collectors of Lord of the Rings memorabilia and younger players drawn to the whimsical nature of the Lego Dimensions ecosystem. Upon release, the set was noted for its utility in the game, specifically for its unique ability to access certain in-game puzzles, which solidified its status as an essential item for players navigating the game's varied levels.
