Where it came from
The Hero with Illager set was released as part of the LEGO Minecraft theme, which launched in 2012 to translate the block-based aesthetics of the sandbox video game into physical construction sets. Designed to capture the escalating conflict mechanics of the game, this set focuses on the Illager mobs, which were introduced in the 2016 'Exploration Update' to Minecraft, providing players with more hostile, human-like antagonists to encounter in forest mansions and pillager outposts.
The design process for these minifigures prioritized replicating the iconic, pixelated geometry of the game's character models while maintaining the functionality of standard LEGO building components. The inclusion of the Hero character alongside the Illager is intended to recreate the iconic raids and combat encounters featured in modern Minecraft gameplay, and the set received positive attention from fans for its faithful adaptation of the game's distinct art style and creature designs.
