Where it came from
Released in 2014 as part of the initial wave of the Lego Minecraft Micro World series, this set represents a pivotal moment in the partnership between The Lego Group and Mojang. Developed following a successful campaign on the Lego Cuusoo platform, the theme was designed to translate the blocky, low-resolution aesthetic of Minecraft into physical building bricks. The set captured a quintessential encounter between the game's protagonist, Steve, and a skeleton, utilizing a modular design that allowed for a multi-layered, grid-based representation of the digital landscape.
The design team focused on capturing the iconic 'pixelated' look of the source material by utilizing specialized plate configurations rather than traditional minifigures. This approach was intended to honor the game's inherent construction philosophy, encouraging builders to arrange and rearrange the small-scale terrain pieces. Upon its launch, the series was received with enthusiasm by both adult fans of Lego and the Minecraft community, marking the first time the game's open-world mechanics were officially realized in a desktop-sized, collectible format.
