Where it came from
The Ice Cream Saxophonist, part of the LEGO VIDIYO Bandmates Series 1 launched in 2021, represents a departure from traditional building sets toward a digital-physical hybrid experience. Designed as a collectible minifigure, this character reflects the theme's focus on music-video creation and augmented reality, allowing users to scan the figure into the VIDIYO app to unlock unique digital effects and stage performances.
The design of the figure is intentionally maximalist, featuring a vibrant, stylized ice cream-themed outfit that embodies the whimsical and high-energy aesthetic of the short-lived VIDIYO line. While the theme itself received mixed reception due to its reliance on a standalone mobile app that has since been discontinued, the individual Bandmates figures are now appreciated by collectors for their intricate printing, unique molded elements, and the distinct, experimental creative vision they represent in LEGO history.
