JAW Beast vs. STORMER

Released in 2014 as part of the LEGO Hero Factory 'Invasion from Below' wave, this set depicts a confrontation between the heroic character Stormer and a subterranean JAW Beast. The theme was a direct evolution of LEGO's attempt to bridge the gap between traditional brick-building and the complex articulation of action figures, following the discontinuation of the Bionicle line. By this stage in the Hero Factory run, designers shifted toward a smaller, more streamlined aesthetic that prioritized ease of play and compatibility with a standardized ball-and-socket building system.

The design of the set focuses on contrasting the sleek, armored aesthetic of the Hero Factory pilot against the organic, monstrous appearance of the beast. The JAW Beast itself features translucent elements and snapping jaw mechanisms intended to appeal to younger audiences. Upon its release, the set was noted by the hobbyist community for its inclusion of specialized shell components that offered new possibilities for character customization, although it was also viewed as a sign of the fading popularity of the Hero Factory theme before the eventual return of Bionicle.
