Where it came from
Released in 2007, the Jawblade was part of the short-lived LEGO Exo-Force line, specifically within the 'Deep Jungle' subtheme. The set was designed to represent a mechanised combat vehicle piloted by the character Blade, reflecting the series' thematic blend of Japanese anime-inspired aesthetics and futuristic technology. It arrived at a time when LEGO was experimenting heavily with narrative-driven original themes, aiming to capture the interest of children fascinated by robotics and high-action storytelling.
The design of the Jawblade features a distinct insectoid aesthetic, mimicking the appearance of a praying mantis, which set it apart from the more humanoid mechs in the Exo-Force collection. The model utilised a vibrant lime green and black colour scheme, accented with translucent orange pieces to simulate an energised state. Critics and fans of the era noted its creative use of articulated joints, which allowed for a range of dynamic poses that mirrored the agile, aggressive nature of the character's biomechanical ship.
