Where it came from
Kendo Zane was released in 2012 as part of the Lego Ninjago 'Rise of the Snakes' wave. This set was designed to introduce the 'Kendo' training gear aesthetic, featuring the ninja character Zane equipped with a unique helmet mold and modular weapons rack. The design prioritized playability and compatibility with the spinner-based combat system that defined the early years of the Ninjago theme.
The figure and associated build represent the transition period of Ninjago, where the series began to deepen its character-focused narrative. It was designed by the Lego Group's internal development team to provide fans with a more detailed, gear-heavy version of the protagonist. Upon its release, it was well-received by collectors for the inclusion of specialized armor pieces and character-specific accessories that allowed for more dynamic display options.
