Where it came from
Released in 2009 as part of the Bionicle Glatorian line, Kiina represents a departure from the traditional mechanical aesthetic of the earlier series, opting for a design that reflects a desert warrior inhabitant of the planet Bara Magna. The set was created during a period when the Bionicle narrative shifted from the island of Mata Nui to a more rugged, arena-based setting, influencing the character's agile and lightly armored appearance.
The figure features the distinct build associated with the late-stage Bionicle sets, utilizing the CCBS-adjacent limb pieces that offered greater articulation than original Technic-heavy designs. Designed by the internal Lego creative team to emphasize a bold, aquatic-themed color palette despite the desert environment, the character was well-received by fans for its unique spear weapon and the inclusion of a life-counter piece designed for the associated tabletop play style.
