Where it came from
The LearnToLearn Core set, identified as set 45120-1, was developed by the LEGO Education division to serve as a versatile pedagogical tool for primary school classrooms. Released to bridge the gap between abstract conceptualization and hands-on learning, the set was designed to facilitate creative problem-solving and communication through tactile manipulation. Its development drew upon established educational research, focusing on 'constructionism'—the idea that students learn best when engaged in creating tangible objects that represent their understanding of a topic.
The physical design of the kit is defined by a carefully curated selection of standard and specialized bricks, specifically chosen for their open-ended utility rather than predefined building instructions. By eschewing rigid build steps, the set encourages students to engage in rapid prototyping and iterative design thinking. While intended as a professional classroom resource rather than a commercial toy, it has been widely recognized by educators for its efficiency in teaching core curriculum subjects through physical exploration.
