Where it came from
The Legends of Chima Shield, released as set 851355-1, was introduced by the LEGO Group in 2013 as part of the accessories line for the Legends of Chima theme. This short-lived fantasy theme focused on animal tribes battling over a magical power source known as Chi, and this specific item served as a roleplay accessory intended to allow younger children to physically embody the heroic warriors of the series.
The shield design reflects the aesthetic of the Lion Tribe, featuring a molded plastic construction with stylized animal motifs and the vibrant, high-contrast color scheme characteristic of the Chima product line. While the theme itself eventually concluded, items like this shield were produced to leverage the immersive storytelling of the accompanying television series, aiming to bridge the gap between building sets and interactive play. It was received as a niche collectible for franchise completionists rather than a core construction component.
