Where it came from
The Legends of Chima Scorpion Sword and Shield set, released in 2014, was designed as a roleplay accessory to complement the short-lived LEGO Chima theme. The theme focused on a high-fantasy world of anthropomorphic animal tribes, and this set was produced to allow children to embody the Scorpion tribe, which served as a primary antagonist force within the Chima storyline during its later cycles.
The design emphasizes a jagged, crystalline aesthetic characteristic of the Scorpion faction, utilizing molded plastic to replicate a sense of chitinous, insectoid armor. While these roleplay items were primarily marketed as seasonal tie-in gear for the broader LEGO brand, they are now documented as niche artifacts of a specific era in LEGO’s experimental venture into proprietary fantasy world-building.
