Where it came from
The LEGO Minifigures Team GB collection, released in 2012, was created to commemorate the Summer Olympic Games held in London. This limited-edition series was released exclusively in the United Kingdom, capturing the excitement of the host nation by featuring nine distinct athletes representing various sports, including a swimmer, a gymnast, a relay runner, and a judo practitioner, all adorned with the iconic Union Jack branding.
The design of these minifigures was intended to mirror the aesthetic of the 2012 British Olympic team, with each character provided with sport-specific accessories such as a barbell, a gold medal, or a hurdle. The series received significant attention from collectors due to its regional exclusivity and the cultural milestone of the London Games, marking a unique collaboration between the Danish toy company and the national sporting body.
