Where it came from
The LEGO Minifigures Team GB Series, released in 2012, was created to commemorate the Summer Olympic Games held in London that year. This limited-edition collection consisted of nine unique minifigures, each representing various athletes such as a gymnast, a judo practitioner, and a relay runner, all sporting the official Team GB branding. The series served as a tie-in promotion to celebrate the host nation's participation in the Games.
The figures were designed to capture the spirit of the Olympic movement, featuring detailed printing on the torsos and legs that replicated the specific athletic gear worn by British competitors. Upon their release, they were sold in blind bags, which heightened the collectible nature of the set. The series was met with significant enthusiasm from both LEGO collectors and Olympic memorabilia enthusiasts, as it was one of the few instances where the toy company produced a line dedicated to a specific national Olympic team.
