Where it came from
Released in 2014, The Simpsons Series of LEGO Minifigures marked a milestone in the partnership between The LEGO Group and 20th Century Fox. Designed to coincide with the show's 25th anniversary, this collection was created to capture the iconic aesthetic of Matt Groening’s long-running animated family through the medium of custom-molded LEGO elements. Each figure was meticulously crafted to reflect the distinctive physical traits of characters like Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, Maggie, and Grampa, requiring unique head sculpts that departed from standard minifigure geometry to maintain the characters' recognizable silhouettes.
The reception was overwhelmingly positive among both lifelong fans of the series and adult LEGO collectors, who praised the attention to detail and the novelty of seeing Springfield residents rendered in brick form. Produced as a blind-bag series, the set fostered a sense of communal collecting and trading, which remains a hallmark of the LEGO Minifigures line. The sealed box collection is now regarded as a definitive time capsule of the collaboration, serving as a benchmark for how licensed intellectual property is successfully translated into the modular, playful language of LEGO design.
