Where it came from
LEGO My Style: Kindergarten, released in 2000, represents a distinct period in LEGO's history when the company heavily experimented with CD-ROM-based interactive media to expand their brand reach into the growing educational software market. Designed as a digital learning tool for children ages three to six, it was part of a series intended to translate the tactile, creative nature of building blocks into a virtual environment that encouraged problem-solving, color matching, and early literacy through playful digital tasks.
The software was developed by LEGO Media, a division tasked with bridging physical play and computer interaction. While the visual aesthetic relied on the blocky, colorful language of the Duplo and System lines to remain recognizable to younger users, the reception was mixed among contemporary critics. Some praised its gentle pedagogical approach, while others noted the technical limitations of early 2000s CD-ROM software, leaving this title as a curious relic of a time when the company was still finding its footing in the digital gaming space.
