LEGO People Supplementary Set

The LEGO People Supplementary Set, released in 1976 under the set number 1075, was designed to address a fundamental limitation in the early LEGO system: the absence of consistent, articulated figures. Prior to the introduction of the modern minifigure in 1978, LEGO kits were largely focused on building structures and vehicles, often leaving the play experience devoid of human-scale representation. This supplemental pack was released during a transitional period when the company was actively experimenting with how to integrate characters into their brick-based world.

The figures included in this set belong to the 'LEGO family' design aesthetic, which featured simplified, unarticulated torsos and heads that were notably different from the contemporary minifigure. These figures were intended to inhabit the burgeoning town and house sets of the mid-1970s. While they were eventually superseded by the standardized minifigure design, the 1075 set remains a significant piece of design history, representing the company’s early efforts to transition from abstract building toward the narrative-driven, character-based play that would define the brand for decades to come.
