Where it came from
Released in 2009, the LEGO Pirates Advent Calendar (set 6299-1) represented a seasonal expansion of the classic Pirates theme, which had been revitalized that same year to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the original 1989 line. Designed to provide a daily countdown to the holidays, the set departs from the typical building experience by offering a series of small, dioramas and minifigures that build out a festive seaside encampment, blending traditional pirate tropes with seasonal flair.
The set was conceived as a limited-run offering intended to capture the nostalgia of the classic Imperial Guards and pirate factions. Illustrators and designers utilized the aesthetic language of the 2009 Pirates revival, focusing on vibrant colors and specialized small-scale builds. Upon its release, it was well-received by the adult collector community for its inclusion of exclusive printed parts and rare minifigure components, marking a notable departure from the licensed themes that dominated the advent calendar category at the time.
