Where it came from
The LEGO Snowglobe, set number 40223, was released in 2016 as a seasonal promotional item. Designed as a limited-edition gift with purchase during the holiday shopping season, the set reflects the LEGO Group’s long-standing tradition of producing exclusive, small-scale builds to incentivize holiday retail activity. Its release coincided with a period of growth for the company's seasonal marketing strategy, which aimed to bridge the gap between traditional toy construction and decorative holiday ornaments.
The set was designed by LEGO staff designers to function as a modular, buildable display piece that captures the aesthetic of a classic winter scene inside a crystalline enclosure. By utilizing a mix of standard transparent bricks and decorative elements, the designers achieved a stylized representation of a snowglobe that emphasizes playability and tactile assembly. Upon its release, it was well-received by the adult fan community for its inventive use of parts and its practical utility as a festive desk or shelf decoration.
