Where it came from
The Lotus Evija, released in 2022 as part of the LEGO Speed Champions series, captures the aesthetic of the British manufacturer's first all-electric hypercar. Designed to bring the intricate aerodynamics of the real-world vehicle to a smaller scale, the set translates the Evija's signature hollowed-out side pods and sleek profile into the classic brick-built format. It was developed to celebrate Lotus's transition toward electric performance vehicles, reflecting the brand's pivot from lightweight internal combustion sports cars to cutting-edge EV technology.
The model was designed to challenge builders with unique structural techniques required to replicate the car's complex vent architecture. Upon its release, it was well-received by fans of the Speed Champions line for its distinct color palette and its ability to represent a modern marvel of engineering within an accessible set. It remains a representative piece of the partnership between LEGO and Lotus, highlighting the technical challenges of interpreting modern, flowing automotive design language through the rigid medium of plastic bricks.
