Where it came from
Released in 2022 as part of the LEGO City Space subtheme, the Lunar Research Base (60350-1) was designed to reflect contemporary interest in lunar exploration and NASA’s Artemis program. The set was created to provide an immersive, play-oriented experience, featuring modular structures, a lander, and a drone, aiming to inspire children's interest in STEM fields through the lens of potential future human activity on the moon.
The design team focused on incorporating authentic elements like docking hatches and research labs, leaning into a utilitarian aesthetic that balances playability with the recognizable tropes of science fiction and real-world aerospace engineering. Upon its release, it was well-received by the building community for its ability to integrate with other sets in the City Space series, offering a cohesive modular ecosystem for fans of space-themed construction.
