Where it came from
The Marine Biologist minifigure was released in 2020 as part of the LEGO Minifigures Series 20. This series was designed to offer a diverse array of characters, providing builders with unique accessories and printed details that are not typically found in standard playsets. The Marine Biologist specifically features a dual-molded flipper piece, a specialized scuba mask, and a unique printed torso depicting a wetsuit with a logo, reflecting the thematic focus on professional and exploratory roles.
The design of this figure leans into the iconic aesthetic of LEGO's ocean-themed sets, which have been a staple of the brand since the 1990s. By including a small brick-built manta ray companion, the designers aimed to provide a complete narrative scene in a single blind-bagged package. Upon its release, the figure was well-received by the collector community for its level of detail, particularly the inclusion of the distinct marine life element, which complemented broader environmental and educational themes often championed by the company.
