Where it came from
The Mateo & Z-Blob polybag, designated 552301-1, was released in 2023 as part of the initial launch wave for LEGO Dreamzzz. This product line was developed alongside an animated series, marking a significant investment by the LEGO Group in a homegrown intellectual property rooted in the concept of children's dreams. The set was primarily distributed as a promotional item at retail stores and special events to introduce fans to the central characters of the narrative.
The design of this specific set centers on Mateo, one of the primary protagonists, and his companion, Z-Blob. The build captures the creative and fluid aesthetic of the Dreamzzz theme, reflecting the show's emphasis on imagination where dream creatures come to life. As a small-scale promotional set, it was intended to be an accessible entry point for builders curious about the new theme's visual style and character designs before they committed to the larger, more complex building sets in the collection.
