Where it came from
The 7190 Millennium Falcon was released in 2000 as one of the inaugural sets in the LEGO Star Wars theme. It marked the first time the company rendered Han Solo's iconic freighter in brick form, reflecting a pivotal moment in the partnership between The LEGO Group and Lucasfilm. The design was intended to balance the complex, asymmetrical geometry of the starship with the limitations of early 2000s building techniques, prioritizing playability through a removable top section that revealed an interior cockpit and cargo area.
Designed during a period of rapid experimentation for LEGO, the set featured a distinct aesthetic that leaned heavily on grey and light-grey palettes, eschewing the more refined greebling techniques found in later iterations. It included minifigures of Han Solo, Chewbacca, Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and R2-D2. Upon its release, it was well-received by fans for its scale and ambition, establishing the foundational design language for what would eventually become one of the longest-running and most successful product lines in the company's history.
