Where it came from
The Mining Power Splitter, released in 2018 as part of the Lego City Mining subtheme, was designed to introduce children to the concept of industrial quarrying through a simplified, action-oriented build. The set reflects the long-standing tradition of Lego City themes focusing on rugged, real-world utility vehicles, offering a compact play experience that emphasizes the interplay between the operator minifigure and the mobile drilling mechanism.
The design prioritizes playability, featuring a functioning arm that simulates the process of breaking apart rock pieces. It was crafted by the Lego City design team to complement the larger mining sets of that year, providing an entry-level building challenge. Upon release, it was well-received by collectors and young builders alike for its effective use of parts to create a realistic, sturdy-looking piece of heavy machinery within a small, accessible footprint.
