Where it came from
The Mirkwood Elf Guard, set 30212-1, was released by the LEGO Group in 2012 as part of a promotional campaign for The Hobbit film trilogy. It was designed as a polybag set, a common format for small, accessible builds meant to be given away as store incentives or sold at a lower price point to draw fans into the broader theme. The set features a single minifigure of an Elf Guard from the Woodland Realm, complete with a specialized bow, a quiver, and a small buildable weapons rack.
The design of the figure reflects the aesthetic established by the Weta Workshop for the Peter Jackson films, characterized by the distinct elven armor and intricate leaf-inspired motifs. Within the LEGO collector community, the set is appreciated for its high-quality printing on the torso and head piece, which accurately captures the look of the film's Mirkwood archers. While it is a modest set in terms of piece count, it remains a sought-after piece for collectors focusing on the Middle-earth theme due to the specificity of the character and the relatively short period it was widely available through retail channels.
