Where it came from
Misfortune's Keep (70605-1) was released in 2016 as a flagship set for the LEGO Ninjago theme, specifically tied to the 'Skybound' story arc. The set represents the floating airship of the antagonist Nadakhan, designed to reflect a fusion of traditional Ninjago aesthetic with a nautical, sky-pirate motif. It was developed to serve as the central play-set for the season, featuring complex play functions like hidden cannons and a trapdoor.
The design was spearheaded by the LEGO Ninjago team, who aimed to evoke a sense of high-fantasy adventure through the ship’s elaborate sails and distinct purple and gold color scheme. Upon its release, it was well-received by collectors for its dense build and the inclusion of key minifigures from the Skybound narrative, such as Jay and the djinn Nadakhan, marking it as a standout example of the theme's creative world-building during that era.
