Where it came from
The Mobile Site Office, released as set 646-2 in 1979, emerged during a pivotal era for Lego as the company expanded its Town theme into more specialized construction and industrial play scenarios. Designed to simulate the functional, utilitarian workspace of a roadwork or building site crew, the set provided a compact, mobile unit that allowed young builders to integrate administrative and logistical tasks into their city layouts.
The set reflects the minimalist, stud-based design philosophy common to late 1970s Lego, utilizing a straightforward color palette of yellow, white, and red. It was received as a practical accessory for the broader construction line of the period, valued by collectors for its rare printed elements and its role in establishing the prototypical aesthetic of Lego service vehicles that would influence future city-themed infrastructure sets.
