Where it came from
The Motorized Lighthouse set was released in 2022 as part of the LEGO Ideas theme, a program that invites fans to submit their own designs for potential commercial production. This specific model originated from a fan submission by Sandro Quattrini, who sought to capture the isolated, romantic aesthetic of a working lighthouse. The design was selected for its sophisticated use of internal mechanisms, which allow the light to rotate and illuminate, simulating the function of a real maritime beacon.
The final production version retained the designer's original vision for a landscape-heavy, minifigure-scale build while incorporating essential LEGO Technic elements to power the rotating fresnel lens. Upon release, the set was praised for its atmospheric details, such as the cottage interior and the rugged, rock-covered coastline. It marked a notable entry in the Ideas line for its functional complexity and its departure from typical building structures, effectively bridging the gap between a display model and a working kinetic sculpture.
