Ninjago Magnet Set

The LEGO Ninjago Magnet Set, identified by set number 853102-1, was released in 2011 as part of the initial launch of the Ninjago theme. Created by The LEGO Group to capitalize on the burgeoning popularity of the Ninja-inspired narrative, this set featured three non-removable minifigures—Kai, Jay, and Bonezai—secured to a molded baseplate with an integrated magnet for display on metal surfaces. It served as a functional piece of merchandise, allowing fans to incorporate the new characters into their everyday environments beyond traditional building sets.

The design of these minifigures reflects the early aesthetic of the Ninjago series, characterized by the distinct elemental masks and armor pieces that defined the line's debut. By offering the characters as magnets, the company aimed to provide a lower-cost entry point for enthusiasts who were interested in the figures but perhaps not the larger playsets. While these magnet sets were well-received as accessible collector's items, they are now noted by hobbyists for the permanent adhesive used to attach the figures to the plates, a construction style that distinguished these display pieces from standard LEGO play components.
